Watt arrives with a phonograph, amusing kids who beg for nickels. H. A. Woodruff returns from England mission and gains a reception. N. B. Lake narrowly escapes a mine collapse near Fort Duchesne.
Clerk Bache of the Supreme Court issues a certificate stating the case of St Enoch Davis from Vernal has been appealed to the U S Supreme Court. The certificate stays his second execution judgment by Judge Blackburn dated April 10, with June 9 execution date stayed.
A ten year old girl in Emery county’s Castle Gate accidentally killed her nine month old sister with a pistol from her father’s trunk. The child pointed the gun at the baby’s forehead, the pistol fired, and the infant died instantly. Justice H J Shultz impaneled a jury which returned a verdict of accidental death.
Chicago May 28 opening of the World’s Columbian Exposition draws an estimated 200000 visitors to Jackson Park on a cold damp day. State buildings opened include Illinois California Wisconsin Colorado Michigan Maine Iowa Idaho Montana Kansas Nebraska Washington Minnesota Florida Arizona Mexico Ohio Wyoming. Several states and several others remained closed or unfinished. Saloon and hotel bars show subdued activity as crowds elsewhere surge.
