Uintah Basin Livestock Show Awards Honors and Winners
The Uintah Basin Livestock Show featured top hog displays by David Roberts of Vernal who captured grand and reserve champion as well as third place with Yorkshires from the same sow. Ronald Dudley of Randlett showed an 051 lb Hereford steer winning grand champion in fat beef, matching a 1958 title, plus the champion Hereford breeding bull Tuesday in range animals. The show also highlighted fat lambs, 54 beef, and 45 hogs with Marvin Pace of Coalville presenting grand champion Jay Lan, a Hampshire, and Mack Murray Myton handling reserve in lambs. FFA entries saw Bruce Cook Vernal finish first in hogs, Cody Jenkins Vernal in beef, and Everett Southam Vernal in lambs. Gary Harrison Vernal won in hogs in the fitting and showmanship contest for 411 clubs.

The Memorial Day weekend drew a record number of visitors to Dinosaur National Monument. In Vernal, about 1550 people visited the Monument Sunday, 800 more than any prior day, with 1135 Monday and 1696 on the previous Saturday. Most visitors came from the Wasatch Front. motels were full, and the visitor center will be open 9 am to 7 pm from Saturday through Labor Day.
