Oil Shale Reserves In United States Hint At Future Power

The Oregon deposit near Ashland is said to cover hundreds of acres and yield large oil quantities, with open cut mining to 200 feet. The great eastern shale field spans Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio, tied to the Cincinnati uplift. Estimates place Indiana oil shale at 45 billion tons, with cheap mining and water supply supporting development. Western fields cover Utah and Wyoming, with Utah deposits yielding up to 70 gallons per ton near Watson and Wyoming spanning 3,600 acres. Grand Mesa in Colorado hosts vast shale and Parachute Creek areas. A global total is immense, and a scenario of 100 plants at 2 000 tons daily would not exhaust Colorado’s easily available supply for 800 years.
