Twelve Uranium Claims Near Davis Sold for 50000

A block of twelve uranium claims south of Davis Ward sold to James E. Reed brokerage of Salt Lake City for pegty boo and 500,000 shares in Uintah Uranium Corporation. Sellers include Lynn Martinsen Vernal Tom Timothy Glines Hyrum Slaugh Davis and George Martinson Vernal who received 0,000 each and 80,000 shares. Martin Campbell O L Johnson C R Henderson Vernal each got 4000 and 40,000 shares. BM Sjough got 900 and 9,000 shares. Reed company takes 20 percent overwriting royalty. Claims leased to Bush Drilling Co. and Ash Co. hold leases on 21 other nearby claims. Two seven-man seismograph drilling crews operate on 33 claims. Additional filings covered 240 acres in Sec 24-25 T5S R21E.

Child Welfare Worker Begins Work in Vernal

Reed Mansen from Malarysvale Utah has been appointed child welfare worker for Vernal Uintah County under the Department of Public Welfare. He is a 1938 Kingman High School graduate with U of Utah sociology and psychology training, a former U.S. Marine sergeant, and recently earned a master’s degree. He will liaise with juvenile services, coor, schools, and community agencies.

School District May Receive Federal Aid

A Utah school district may qualify for federal aid under Public Law 615 after amending the qualifying percentage from twenty five to ten percent. Supt Harold Lundell notes the change could help Alterra, where a new building is needed and classrooms use an old peminas structure with hot lunch programs.

A blaze at a derrick near Uintah Dome ignited around 2 30 p m as flames spread to a shanty while crews battled the inferno. Vernal City Fire Department extinguished the fire using water diverted from a nearby irrigation ditch to control the fire and prevent spread.

Merkley Park Dry Fork Roads Paved

Two miles of Dry Fork roads were paved last week as part of county projects led by road foreman Kenrm Workman. The crew laid asphalt on 16 miles of road beyond already paved stretches and completed final work on the Merkley Park entry Wednesday morning. They then moved to the Vernal Airport to pave the road into the new administration building and parking lot for a July 24 dedication.

Preparations are under way for a Pioneer Day Chuck Wagon Dinner and Homecoming expected to draw about 2,000 guests.
