Vernal celebrated Independence Day with night fireworks and a day of civic programs. In Maeser and Naples ward celebrations featured processions, orations, readings of the Declaration of Independence, athletic events, and fundraising for local church organs and the State tabernacle fund.
A farewell party in Vernal ward honors Bart Bartlett his wife and Don B Colton with musical numbers speeches and cake. County commissioners approve two new Uintah reservation school districts and resolve to lease the Vernal courthouse room. they also consider Vernal City classification and authorize bridge maintenance and road work with various local payments listed.
Miss Marla Todd started a horseback trip and was thrown after the horse pitched near a bridge. She freed herself from the stirrup, remounted, and escaped unharmed. The town notes multiple residents, moves, and local events across Myton and nearby areas.

The Sun Dance of the Uintah Utes began last Saturday evening June 22 with about 50 in the ring and ended Tuesday noon. A new feature was a 60 cent admission fee charged to spectators, described as an unprecedented money making scheme attached to what is regarded as a sacred Ute worship dance.
Lynne Ashton captured the Gold Medal at the Vernal Gun Club event held on the 4th Bn. Carter won the Silver Cup in the same shoot.
Last Monday the county commissioners granted Louisville townsite a school district. John Burgess, Secretary, says a school building will be constructed next month. Trustees are G Peterson, S Wilson, and E Peterson. Guibert Peterson is chairman of the townsite company with Burgess as Secretary.
David and Charles Bulls left for Meeker Colorado with Mrs Bills and her daughter after Geo Bills was killed by lightning on June 21. Moroni Fisher and family returned from their Lake Tork homestead. Alley Anderson’s family made a quick trip to Theodore but river flooding at Lake Fork bridge blocked crossing and safety concerns.
Theodore Thrums notes Mrs Meenan of Montrose and Mrs Steele visiting, with Mrs Steele escorting her home to Ft Duchesne. Stockton and J Lewis travel to Vernal to file on a Blue Beach homestead won in a contest. Mrs McCullough of Stockmore committed to Provo Mental Asylum. Lewis-McCullough history recalled. County commissioners are blamed for poor state road funding, locals plan to go to Heber for merchandise.
Notice to teachers states the second County Teachers’ Convention will convene at Vernal Central School August 8 9 and 10 with State Certificate and Diploma examinations at Logan Ogden Salt Lake and Ephraim and August 10. Applicants include forty two University of Utah Normal Graduates. County Superintendent N G Lowakds warns teachers who do not qualify may not teach.
Postmaster F. M. Hamilton of Cherryvale Indiana runs general merchandise and patent medicines. He says Chamberlain’s Cough, Cholera and Diarrhea Remedy is standard in its line and never fails to give satisfaction. Walter Lloyd Drug Company sells it locally.
