Carter Abandons Second Oil Well In Craig Area

The Carter Oil Company abandons its second Craig area well after reaching 3725 feet in Lewis shale. A January 4 drill stem test at 3099 feet recovered 280 feet of drilling fluid while an electric log was run to confirm no further testing is needed. Operators expect an abandonment announcement and continued geological work may spur later drilling. Indian lacrosse origins noted.

The Great Caribou Outlook by Ernest Seton and Others

Pioneering naturalists estimate North American caribou numbers may reach or exceed 60 million when including Alaska Yukon and other regions. Seton’s 1907 survey suggested over 30 million east of the Mackenzie with possible doubling. Whelen warns this vast herd could threaten sport food supply and conservation as easy air access increases undercounting by past explorers. Caribou migration behavior, diet, scent, eyesight, and flight responses are described along with disease and insect pressures affecting hides and value.
