Taxpayer Backed Push to Modernize Utah Publication Laws
The Utah State Prose Association backs five companion bills in the 1953 Utah Legislature to modernize publication laws affecting small cities, townships, counties, and school districts. Advocates argue readers deserve to know how tax money is spent, including contracts and expenditures, with weekly papers acting as watchdogs and publishers pledging to inform taxpayers while noting many details would emerge only through public records.

Order Clarifies Land Rates of Ute Indians
Executive order approved last week clarifies title and mineral rights to about 13 000 acres in Duchesne County for the Ute Indian tribe. The order unfreezes roughly 300 000 dollars in revenue from oil and gas leases and reserves minerals on part of the land for tribal use. Rex Curry, business manager for the Ute tribe, and attorney John Boyden helped secure the settlement and planned to return to Utah.
