COUNTY RIFLE TEAMS CLASH IN FOG SHOT AT VERNAL

The Vernal Gun Club challenged the County team in a 10 man rifle shoot at 200 yards. The County claimed victory 282 to 270 as fog hindered accuracy and tempers rose over the scoring.

Bounty Notice From Wool Growers Association Uintah County

At the annual meeting on January 14 1907 the association ordered no bounty on coyotes and other varmints billed after February 1 1907 until further notice. Bounties will be paid on animals killed during January as per prior notice. H W Wooley secretary.

Delayed Mails Isolated Vernal by Record Snow Blockade

Vernal lies 120 miles from major rail lines as Baxter pass snowed under with 25 feet of drifts. No mail since last Saturday night and several days more are expected. A Uintah Railway train from Dragon to Mack was stuck near the summit. two engines unable to move. Passengers include Captain Cooley and two company employees. two drummers John H Crane and F E West reached Vernal later. Despite efforts, crews cannot clear the track due to continuous storms. Residents accept the delay. some old residents recall winter of 1879 when mail service stopped longer.

A new realty firm with $19,000 capitalization divided into 400 shares of 26 each was organized Thursday. Officers include Samuel R Bennion president Col FI Harmaton vice president Herbert Tyzack secretary Harden Bennion treasurer. Directors are C S Carter Si and W H Siddoway. Main office in Vernal to conduct real estate abstract loan commission promotion and insurance business and to operate before land offices.

County Board Revises State Road Route In 1907

The Ashley County commission on January 14 1907 voted to alter the state road path from Alfred Powell’s residence north to Perry Bingham and west to John N Davis corner then north to the Ashley Co op store and onward to various landmarks including the John Johnston planing mill corner with further routing to the Freestone corner and a northward segment toward Roosevelt. The route to be finally decided after inspection. The board also discussed funding before full survey, duties and pay of the county surveyor, and ordered placement of a new plat book and copies of Utah statutes. A stock inspector applicant was considered, the constable S W Rosa was approved, $20 monthly for sheriff horse feed set, and auditing measures for license payments were instructed.
