Awful Lyching Affair at Bakersfield North Carolina
A mob of five hundred masked men seized Calvin Snipes from the jail and lynched him in a forest half a mile away. Ten sheriff's deputies were killed and about twenty five mob members perished, with many wounded. The attack escalated into a prolonged gun battle resulting in numerous deaths on both sides.
