Forage Quality Affects Rumen Digestion In Cattle

Coarse forage slows digestion by occupying rumen space and delaying intake. Dr Lane Moore notes fine forage digests quickly while coarse material may linger 70 hours. Higher grain feeding supports rumen capacity, while hay and straw types differ in digestibility. Forage use in wintering, fattening, and bloat prevention is discussed along with zinc supplementation for pigs.
