City Council Appoints New Officials in 1848 Meeting
City council appointed municipal officials at the first meeting of the newly elected council held Tuesday evening at the city office. Officers named include Henry B. Dilliams as justice of the peace, a sexton, Dr WC Esker as city physician, Roy Taylor as city manager and deputy city recorder. Detailed state receipts and expenditures for 1947 were presented and will appear in next week’s Express. The council approved street and drainage work on Main Street pending weather, with plans to coordinate with the Utah State Head Commission on the project. Bills are to be paid semiannually, with current bills due January 1 and a 10 percent discount for timely payments by February 10. Mayor Stringham outlined duties to councilmen, to be published in full next issue.

Funeral Rites Held for Mrs McNaughton in Utah
Mrs McNaughton aged 84 died Sunday afternoon at home after age related causes. Funeral services were at Swain Funeral Home with Rev Joseph Warner and Jesse Haws offering prayers. Burial in Salt Lake City at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park follows a service at Larkin Mortuary. Survived by three sons John E Lorenzo B McNaughton Vernal William J of Los Angeles, a daughter Mary Tanglord of Copper Center, four sisters and seven grandchildren plus five great grandchildren.

Funeral Services For Mrs Herbert To Be Held Friday
Funeral services for Florence Van Tassell Hartert 67 who died at her Uintah Basin home Tuesday will be held Friday at 11 am in the Vernal First Ward Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints under Ernest L Caldwell. She was born March 25 1840 in Fermington daughter of Henry and Mary Ann Moan and married Henry Gwen Van Tassell February 13 1900. Surviving are her husband seven sons six daughters three brothers one sister and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her active church involvement included Relief Society and Daughters of Utah Pioneers.

Lambert Funeral Held Friday After Long Illness
John A. Lambert Sr age 86 longtime Vernal Utah County resident and former cable installer died after a short illness. Born in Blairstown New Jersey in 1891 he settled in Vernal in 1890 and served in the Sixth U S Infantry during the Indian wars. He is survived by two sons Mrs. E Pinta Glendale Arizona a daughter Mrs. Louiseen San Mateo California and several grandchildren. Funeral services were held Friday at Ward Chapel in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Evans Woman Dies on Coast After Operation
Mrs E W Evans, 71, died on the coast after a major operation. Born August 16, 1876 in Salt Lake County, she lived in Vernal with husband EW Evans.
