Largest Uintah Basin lion shot near Vernal by Sheridan man
Sheridan Wyoming hunter Jerry E. Carbone, 34, felled what was believed to be the Uintah Basin’s largest mountain lion Friday south of Vernal. The cat weighed about 178 pounds and measured about feet long, aided by seven shots from a .387 Magnum. His six year old hound Bob helped track the big cat for 13 hours across six miles of canyon. The hunt ended when the lion leaped from a cedar limb and Carbone fired, wounding the animal in the head and shoulder.
