Rebuilding of Highway 64 Finished In December

Colorado residents gain an outlet to the west as Highway 64 is completed. The road from Tangery to Highway 40 finished December 3, with two miles in Moffat County and the rest in Rio Blanco County. The route improves access to oil fields and reduces winter hazards by easing grades across Rabbit Ears and Berthoud passes.

Vernal Chamber Chooses Delegates for Regional Group

The Vernal Chamber of Commerceappoints three representatives to join Salt Lake Chamber and Utah Valley groups. At a December 17 meeting in Salt Lake City the delegates outlined a plan to coordinate on the Colorado River and Central Utah project. Delegates named are B. H. Stringham Hugh Wheaton and Henry Stringham.

Funeral services for Ashley Valley pioneer held

Funeral services were held for Burton, an early Ashley Valley pioneer and mail carrier born in 1840 in Salt Lake City. He died Tuesday December 20 in Los Angeles and will be brought to Vernal for burial. He helped run a Vernal store and wagon route, later moving to Los Angeles after his children settled there. Burial will follow at Vernal.

Oil production figures for several months from the Chichesne Uta Tribal No 1, released by Carter Oil Company, show July 102 bpd over 3 days totaling 308 barrels, August 342 bpd over 29 days totaling 9617, September 287 bpd over 30 days totaling 8399, October 187 bpd over 23 days totaling 4283. Present daily average 140 to 175 bpd as waxing continues. Gravity 44 degrees API. Well price $2.19 per barrel.

Early Lapoint Pioneer Dies at Home Sunday

Christine Sophia Taylor died Sunday morning at home in Lapoint due to heart illness. Born June 19, 1878 in Nurenburg Germany, she came to the United States as a young girl and studied at Tinta Academy in Vernal. She married Charles Taylor on December 25, 1901 and moved to Lapoint, one of the area's early pioneer families. She is survived by her husband four sons Charles R. Taylor Harvey R Taylor Arthur H Taylor of Lapoint and Eva A Taylor of Vernal ten grandchildren and no great grandchildren Mortuary services were held by Mortuary.

Heavy Snow Blocks Uintah Basin Roads and Traps Motorists

Heavy snowfall left Uintah Basin roads impassable trapping motorists and isolating farms for days. Storm dropped temperatures to 385 below zero and packed snow up to five feet across Daniels Canyon and Strawberry Reservoir area. Officials reported 17 inches of snow in parts of the basin with high winds hindering rescue and road clearing efforts.
