Green River Oil Sands See Both Upside and Drawback
Last weekend in the Green River formation of the Uintah Basin a mix of outcomes emerged. Humble Oil & Refining Co abandoned its Wesley Bastion No 1 wildcat near Bluebell while Shamrock Oil and Gas aims at an old discovery five miles southwest of Red Wash in a new wildcat. STANDARD OIL expanded producers from the Green River sands since the 1951 discovery, with Gulf Oil and Pan American Petroleum reporting solid activity in Wonsis and Wonsis Valley units to the west and southwest and Utah rising to a major oil producer status. A Bluebell shale find yielded oil in the shale rather than sand, hindering commercial production. A lengthy test failed to produce commercially, though 1245 feet of dead oil remained in the drill pipe. Humble has no immediate plans to drill in the area.
