Woolgrowers Name Hacking President and Seek Road Improvement

Rulda P. Hacking of Vernal was named president of the Ashley Woolgrowers Association. Harald Davis named vice president. directors include Reader, Keith Smith, Loran Hatch, W. A. Banks, Hoy Showalter and George C. Davis. Robert F. Livesey named secretary treasurer. The group urged restoration of forest-cutting permits where forest conditions allow and asked for an all weather road from U.S. 40 to Diamond Mountain to move stock and supplies for summer range. Don Clyde of Heber spoke on permit reductions harming sheepmen. Reed er noted excess deer on Ashley Forest and coyote predation. Association favored government purchase of wool for another year. James Hooper cited strong lamb prices. Don Kenney said Salt Lake stockyards market improves for Uintah sheep and wool. Other speakers discussed big game counts and county spray services for ticks.

Young Farmers of State Honor Dwayne Johnson

Dwayne Johnson, a Vernal farmer, was named one of two winners in the Utah Young Farmers association public contest at the annual Salt Lake City convention. He received a gold plaque and serves as district representative for District No. 2, which covers Uintah Basin and northeast Utah. AttendingUintah Basin members included Walter Bowden, Wayne Colier, and Hulon Lind. Doster Landon is the county chapter advisor.

Vernal man killed in tire repair accident near Elk Springs

Frank Alonzo Kemiall, 28, an American Asphalt Co. truck driver, died Friday Feb 4 at Solandt Hospital in Hey den Coto from a skull fracture after a tire he was removing flew off. The accident happened near Elk Springs. He lived nine and a half hours after the crash. He leaves a wife Wilms Foster and three daughters, plus his mother Lucy Rendall and three brothers and a sister. Funeral Tuesday at 2 pm at the Glines Ward chapel with interment at the Vernal Memorial.

Funeral Rites Held at Glines for E. H. Bell

Funeral rites conducted at the Glines LDS chapel for Ernest Herbert Bell, who died Tuesday morning after a short illness. The service featured hymns, speakers William Holfeltz and Well Manwaring, and other participants. Burial was at Macset cemetery under Swalt funeral home. Bell, born January 20 1908 in Vernal, lived in Glenwood and Vercail and was active in ward and church affairs. Surviving relatives include Lu Ann Nebeker, Wyn Mahala, and Elmer Bell.
