Thompson of Lapoint raises a type of Iowa Gold corn that has never frosted in fifteen years of growth. The crop yields over 100 bushels per seven acres and features large kernels with small cob shells.
The Catholic Missionary effort in Uintah Basin will resume with two Paulist priests. Bishop Hunt of Salt Lake City and Bishop Hamey of New York jointly announced the assignment. The Vernal parish area covers over seven thousand square miles with temporary chapel and residence already established.
The annual meeting of the Ver tsl Rodeo will be held in the directors room of the Utatah tate Bank. An election of officers will take place at the meeting. The public is invited to attend and all business houses are requested to be represented.
Violet Hazel Mackay 23 died Monday night after a heart attack during gallbladder surgery attempt. She was born October 8 1914 in Granger Utah and lived in Vernal since age one. Survived by parents J Lil t Tripp Mackay brothers Wyie Leslie Mark and sister Mary Hampton. Funeral Friday 2 p.m. Vernal Second Ward Chapel with burial in Vernal Memorial Park by Swain Funeral Home.

Penney’s lists dresses and work wear. Fashion Cleaners advertise wrinkle remedy services. Imperial hosts a Washington Birthday event with Legion and Marine participants.
The Electrical Appliance shop operated by Don Hacking and Roy Lee opened this week on Vernal Avenue in the former Carol Jean Shop building. The store features Kelvinator refrigerators washers and Zenith radios with radio repair services and displays of new models.
The A and P Maryton Lodge installed T R Johnson and Demat R Barr of Vernal as members at a Monday evening meeting in Myton and conferred the Entered Apprentice Degree. About twelve lodge members attended.
Utah officials push to finish the Utah portion of Highway 40 by June to join Colorado’s Berthoud Pass events. Myrum B Calder of Utah urges rapid completion as eastern Utah residents favor Salt Lake celebrations. Utah resurfacing and grading plans target completion by June 1 with a Dan iela Canyon stretch pending.
The annual opera The Doctor composed by Palmer Clark will be staged at the UHS auditorium on Friday and Saturday March Ti. Cast includes Roberta Cook Virginia Merkley Thelma Woolley Glens Endicott Vada Morrison Ta Caldwell Lois Walker and others with BC Voices providing chorus.
Vernal Dential of Vernal Utah will participate in the midwinter meeting of the Chicago Dental Society. Dr Calder will present a clinic on antiseptic reinforced for first molars and deciduous teeth Friday afternoon in the Cenegal Clinic session. The Chicago midwinter meeting runs March 14 to 18 at the Stevens Hotel Caen.
Fatella W Prterson of Santaquin won the first of twelve electric ranges awarded in a regional contest by electrical appliance dealers. Mrs L Gate of Salt Lake City won a mixer, Alta J Faux won a toaster, and Mrs Batner of Evanston Wye won a lamp. The weekly contest runs twelve weeks with similar awards for best statements on why a new electric range is desired. Rules and blanks are in an ad on page three. blanks available from Utah Power and Light, Norge dealer Home Service, Naptes Store and Service, and Kelvinator dealers. The contest closes at midnight Saturday.
The funeral of Mary Folerson Fisher who died Feb 6 was held at the Maeser ward chapel with a mixed chorus and speakers including John L McGonkie and Archie Johnson. Tributes from the DUP noted her relief society service. burial followed at Memorial Park. Grandsons Lloyd Eaton and Nort Hardy attended. all children except Mrs Elsie Hall of Canada were present.
Uintah defeated Alterra 40 to 12 in UBS gym last Friday in league play, extending their consecutive league win streak to 37. L Hadiock led with six field goals, Sowards scored 11, and Houston led Alterra with five points. The game by quarters shows strong Uintah defense and scoring.
In Uintah Alterta fell 42 to 22 with Hale refereeing and Sparks umpiring. Roosevelt defeated Cochrane 48 to 19 as the UHL Juniors beat RHB. Roosevelt edged Uintah 33 to 2 in a close late contest. Sowards Hadlock led Uintah with 6 points Gardner topped Roosevelt with 8.
Uinton County Agent Mussell R Kreetch forecasts a tougher but manageable 1938 for farm families. Net farm income may dip from 1937 as input costs rise and government payments level off, while farm marketing receipts could falter amid lower prices. Emphasis on thrift, home food production, and preserving cash will be key as families plan to stretch income through 1938.
Postmaster Pontha Calder notes rising money order receipts from 1992 to 1996. Figures show year by year totals and increases with 1992 at about $83,311 and 1996 around $142,239 as money orders issued to outside businesses.
