Lee Webb of Vernal filed with state engineers a plan for water use at Split Mountain Hot Springs near the Gorge. Water from a 16 860 foot pipe system will be conveyed for bathing and then returned to its natural channel.
County agent E Peterson and D N Beal promote stronger Uintah Farm Bureau with meetings across wards. Enthusiastic support grows, Ashley ward tops early progress aiming for 100 percent membership. Sheriff Ray Deming and deputies raided the Black Hawk coffee house and John Davis dwelling in Hiawatha. Proprieter Mike Drakis and several associates were arrested. most fined for gambling and liquor possession, with one suspect facing potential higher charges. Cash found included $124 on a table and $30 from two slot machines. Davis was ill and to be brought in later.
Denver monthly vital statistics report shows five deaths in January due to moonshining whisky. The file notes four similar deaths in January 1922. The monthly tally lists six vehicle-accident deaths, three homicides, and a total of 401 deaths, with 54 under one year. The data compare unfavorably to January 1922’s 428 deaths, 39 under one year.

The skull of a dwarf dinosaur found in central Mongolia may support the theory that North America and Asia were once connected. Paleontologists at the American Museum of Natural History in New York praised the discovery as a major step, dating the dinosaur at not less than five million years old and embedded with its skeleton in red shale.
After a week of illness Mrs Addie Arnold Bullock wife of John K Bullock died at 1 a m Tuesday February 13 in Vernal Utah She faced pneumonia and throat meningitis with her family by her side A longtime community worker she was remembered for her quiet dignity and floral work Her survivors include her husband two daughters from a former marriage and her mother with many relatives listed Funeral services will be held Friday at St Pauls Episcopal Church with Eastern Star involvement.
The Vernal Gun and Rifle Club urges farmers and residents to distribute feed to starving quail after deep snow. Henry Millecam p of Vernal Drug Co coordinates amounts, with Boy Scouts urged to deliver feed to isolated quail areas to prevent further losses.
Dr. Hebert Sears head of the University of Utah Siena department drew a large crowd at the Vogue theatre Sunday afternoon with a hour long talk titled the Gospel of good health. He offered epigrams on health and life stressing duty to one’s body and the value of prevention with plain talk about aging and medical costs.
Emerald Oil Company reports Old Faithful, a major Rangely producer, has been pumped again after a 35 foot depth drill. Previous dry spells last July affected nearby wells, but current output reaches 150 barrels per day with the pump at full capacity. Emerald holdings near Raven Park Dome cover 2880 acres and are poised to boost Raven Oil and Refining capacity pending transport and refining upgrades. A. N. Johnson, Emerald director, oversaw operations.
J. P. May, newly elected president, urges a stronger Roosevelt Commercial club and full club function. About fifty members attended the Wednesday election with Bracken presiding and Leo Young as temporary clerk. Reelection results list May as president, Elroy Wilkins as vice president, Xavier Bellon as second vice president, Ezra Burton as treasurer, and Arnold Rees A C Harmeton and James Sabey as directors.
On March 2 the Utah academy will hold an oratorical contest for a gold medal offered by Principal I A Jacobson. Tryouts occur the prior week and the best six will compete. A large turnout and strong interest are reported at the school.

She spent her early life in Vernal and Roosevelt where she made many friends and was known for her thoughtful ways.
Manager I Sander returned Saturday from Eastern markets where he has been buying for the Ashley Coop. He says market conditions are unsettled with Europe in question but better than a year ago and he expects a prosperous year for the Ashley valley noting many advantages being overlooked.
Mrs. Amanda McCarrell, 94, wife of Jesse H McCarroll and pioneer of 1881, died at her daughter Eliza Woods home on Dry Gulch below Roosevelt. Born September 2 1828 in Canada, she helped build Nauvoo and once danced with Joseph Smith. Survived by 47 grandchildren 107 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
D N Beal addressed the crowd at Vogue Monday afternoon stressing cooperation in Farm Bureau affairs. He highlighted State Farm Bureau efforts to reduce farm land taxes and noted values on some properties were not paying just taxation. Beal, state organizer and tax committee member, announced new committees and urged active Uintah County Farm Bureau participation.
A three man jury after hearing evidence in the case of Marshal H A Miller failed to agree on a verdict in the killing of Dr J M Francke s dog. Prosecutor J T McConnell and defense attorney Wallace Cilder led the sides in a trial before Justice N J Hansen.
William H. Gagon Jr of Roosevelt stake long active in Uintah County politics and commerce died Monday night February 12 after a lingering illness. Born August 22 1850 in New York City he moved to Utah in 1875 and Vernal in 1878 later Ogden. He served as Vernal councilman for four years and led Ashley Central Canal as secretary and director and served as its Uintah County assessor. Survived by wife six sons and several daughters, funeral held Thursday in Roosevelt with many family ties listed.
President A. G. Goodrich clerk of the Uintah school district and his wife attended the funeral of William H. Gagon, an old time friend, in Roosevelt on Thursday.
