Wayne Caldwell, fourteen, son of Ernest and Loulee Caldwell, died Monday evening after a long illness. Born in Ver November 2938, he had an invalid condition his life. Survived by his parents and siblings. Funeral services set for Thursday at First Ward Chapel with speakers Bishop Pontha Calder, Hermon Calder, and Wallace Calder. music by Mrs Leo Hacking and the First Ward mixed quartet. Burial in Vernal Memorial Park under Swain Funeral Home direction.
A six year old boy, Colton Lombard, son of Ernest and Hizal Lombard, was struck and killed by a passing bus while crossing the street to reach a store for his mother. Born June 24, 1936 in Salt Lake City, he had lived in California for four years and attended school there. Funeral services were held at a Methodist chapel, with interment in Goalfmx Cemetery.
Colonel F J Kennard delivers the opening address as the 79th Battalion forms. Officers are introduced, morale is high, and training begins with a goal to make the unit a capable fighting force. A talent show and social events boost spirits while preparations continue in Logan.
Penfetd 31 son of Mr and Mrs W Pentima of Duchesné Utah is enrolled in the naval training school for electricians on the University of Minnesota campus. He will study electrical theory, machinery, wiring and mathematics, plus naval procedures. After completion, he may be promoted to petty officer first class and assigned to the fleet or another naval shore station. Several hundred men attend the school there.
Ken Sowardson, a University of Utah forward, enters his third year with the Utes. He studied business, completed industrial management and engineering courses at Harvard Summer School, and earned a commission in the Naval Reserve after enlisting last year. Mr and Mrs Glen Shelton and Mrs Neilson, of Paso Robles, Calif., returned home after visiting.
WPA liquidation proceeds in Utah with three construction projects closing by January 1 and office space vacated by February 1 in Salt Lake City. Many service programs will continue under new sponsors, including school lunches now firmly established, while nursery schools and commodity distribution shift before January 27 and January 16 respectively.
Ensign Glen H Cooper, after completing a four month course at Northwestern University in Chicago and receiving his commission, is assigned to active duty as a gunnery officer in San Francisco with a report for duty about January 5. Cooper graduated from Boulder State last spring, majoring in pharmacy, and enlisted in the Naval Reserve shortly after graduation. He attended Uintah High School, graduating in 1938, where he was an honor student and served as student body vice president.
Funeral services for Mrs Elizabeth Reynolds were held Sunday in Mossovan for Mrs Elizabeth Reynolds who died after a lingering illness. Prayers at home led by Afton Oaks with multiple speakers including William and Joseph P. Hacking. Interment at Fairview Cemetery with many family members present. Mrs Reynolds born May 33 1858 in Fredrikstad Norway came to Utah in 1867 and helped run Reynolds Milling Go. She was the first president of the YWCA in Mac. Survived by children and 32 grandchildren with three grandsons serving in the armed forces.
Wayne Simmons machinist mate second class of Wellington Utah was among Navy personnel awarded the Silver Star for gallantry when the tanker Neosha was bombed and sunk in the Coral Sea battle. His wife Mrs Bernice Simmons resides in Naples Utah. citation notes he quickly moved to his post and helped preserve water supply after a bomb hit.
A damaged OCR record shows a Waterworks Program nearing completion with total WPA labor costs and non labor expenses, detailing pipe types and lengths used in tank improvements. The note mentions a felony included in the program and cost breakdowns of $13 888 for labor and various non labor amounts, plus miles of piping and hydrants.

Mrs Kenntth Westover of Barstow California and Mr Westover of Vernal are the parents of a baby girl born December 1. The child will be named Jenny Beck. Both parents are Barstow residents.
Keff Smart, a former rExpress writer and editor with experience at the San Tarts Chicago Tribune and Ran Lats Ovispo Camp news, was commissioned as a lieutenant in the chemical warfare division. He recently graduated from officers training and is ordered to report to Camp Sthert by Christmas Eve following a 10 day furlough with his mother, Mrs Nettie Nell Smart.
