Gusher Celebrates First Community Christmas Tree
Gusher residents held a first time community Christmas tree with a shared $1 per family tax. Leonard Farnsworth donated the tree and Mrs Bud Markey with Mrs Ray Davis organized the effort. One hundred candy bags were distributed amid hopes for an annual town event.

Old Man Winter Puts White Hand Over Entire State
Funeral services for Hephzi bah Gardiner Hodgkinson, 94 Uintah basin pioneer and longtime LDS Church worker, were held Tuesday in Vernal. Born May 7, 1854 in England, she emigrated to Utah in 1874, raised 13 children, and remained active in genealogy and church work. She died December 25 at a son's home. survivors include eight children.

In the Vernal region oil activity slows for a holiday period. Carter Oil’s Ruth Nelson No 1, five miles SW of Vernal, and Ute Tribal No 1, seven miles north of Ft Duchesne on Indian land, show depths of 6384 and 4744 feet as of Tuesday evening. Drilling continues at both wells under Vernon E. Farmer Jr., company geologist. Awaiting marketing news from Crain Griffith Oil Co. well in Ashley Valley. The confirmation well on the structure, drilled Dec 11, produced 503 barrels of 32 gravity crude in its first 24 hours, with production expected to rise.
