Early County History of Boarding School Revival
Excerpted memoir details efforts to reopen a boarding school after a harsh winter in the Bear River area. Mrs. Critchlow and others convert a frame building into dormitories and a schoolroom, outfit boarders, and manage supplies while Major Critchlow departs for Washington. The narrative covers student arrivals, lost clothing, deer for candles and meat, and the first weeks of instruction amid frontier challenges.
