Utah Expenditures Jump 20 Million In Past Decade

The December Utah Taxpayer issue details state biennial expenditures from 1929–30 to 1943–44 rising from 15.4 million to 36.9 million, driven by welfare, education, and expanded state functions. Welfare costs climb from 392 thousand to 11.1 million, with federal additions pushing near 18.6 million. education spending grows from 3 million to about 39 million due to junior colleges, a new medical school, and district salary supports. It urges tax reserves during wartime revenue surges and urges legislators to study the 22 point wartime program, stressing representative governance over party factions.
