Dream Location for Buck Hunters at Ouray Refuge
Ouray National Wildlife Refuge begins initial development in spring with a $134000 appropriation to create 45 ponds and residences for staff. The project aims to serve waterfowl migration while duck hunting access depends on Congress funding and final planning. The refuge hosts numerous species including deer, antelope, bobcat, and 195 bird species with duck days use rising from 120000 in 1962 to 191140 this year.

Waterfowl refuge project details and staffing notes
The report notes a redistribution and concentration of birds on the refuge rather than in erratic inland areas. Crops including corn barley and wheat supported duck and goose use and captive Seansda Geese propagation with 111 geese held. The goal is to accelerate nesting populations with first releases planned for winter 1904-95 or early spring 1985. Cleanup of cars fences and old buildings continued with staff reduced to one vacancy after Thelma Powers resigned and Jo Ann Coleman transferred in.
