A Hicks family party and a Mexican guide attempt to descend Diamond Mountain from a Hitsa mill to Verna for aid. The sick boy, exhausted horses, and freezing conditions trigger a split march toward Vernal, with two men missing and a Mexican guide later found wandering in the snow.
