Uintah Big Shipment of Wild Animal Pelts
The county clerks office logged the heaviest bounty pelts shipment this season and sent it to the state agricultural department. Coyotes accounted for about 75 percent of the pelts, with the rest being cats. Most pelts came from the midlands of eastern and southeastern Uintah County. Fur market conditions are weak this winter, with trappers taking the state bounty of three dollars on coyotes and on cats, then forfeiting pelts to the department which resells them to fund the bounty.

Dr V M Tanner head of BYU Zoology and Entomology studied 87 Uintah Basin lakes with cooperative help from the State Fish and Game Department. He cataloged algae insects birds and mammals, counted 7000 insects and 17 mammal species, found only two native fish, and planted 100000 black spotted eggs in many lakes.

Annual Uintah Basin Industrial Convention Set for August Fort Duchesne
The 1931 Uintah Basin Industrial Convention will meet at Fort Duchesne on August 6 and 7. Past sessions drew crowds of up to 10000 daily with visitors from many states, attracted by the Victory highway route and speakers including Ray Lyman Wilbur and Dr E G Peterson. The event promotes culture, science, music, and friendship, and is free of charge with broad local and state support.

Final shipment of dressed turkeys from Uintah county
George Slaugh delivered the last dressed turkeys from Uintah county to Salt Lake City for the holiday market. Armour company of the capital city and Mr Starch boxed about 7000 pounds of turkeys with prices at 21 cents per pound for old and young hens and 24 cents per pound for young toms. This adds to over 110000 pounds sent to Thanksgiving and Christmas markets.

Vernal Hosts Uintah Basin Legion and Auxiliary Gathering
The American Legion Posts and Auxiliary units of the Uintah Basin held a banquet in Vernal with about 74 attendees from Myton Duchesne and Roosevelt. Rey G F Guild presided as master of ceremonies and speakers included Fred Berger BD L Dart Mrs James Dehlquish and Mr and Mrs Jon Molth and Dr M C Campbell. The group plans quarterly meetings and a Christmas fund drive aided by Lions Club funds with proceeds to help the needy.

Mrs Mary Bennion 79 Dies After Long Illness in Salt Lake City
Mrs Mary Karren Bennion 79 died at her daughter’s home in Salt Lake City Sunday evening after a long illness from heart disease. Born January 20, 1652 in Lehi to Thomas and Anne Ratcliffe Karren, Utah pioneers, she married NyRum Bennion in 1871 and lived in Taylorsville and later Salt Lake. She is survived by two sons, three daughters, twenty eight grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. siblings and relatives listed. Mr Bennion previously headed Hyrum Bennion & Bons Milling Co in Murray and died in 1826. She participated in LDS church affairs and was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers and the Daughters of the Mormon Battalion.
