Meat Slaughter Rules and Farm Wage Order Highlight War Food Policy
Wartime food policy notes tight meat controls under the October 1 order, exempting farmers slaughtering for personal use while restricting delivery to civilians. Penalties reach up to 10000 dollars or ten years' jail. Also announced is a wheat export program moving 1.6 billion bushes to Mexico and nearby nations with subsidies until December 22. Byrnes Wage Stabilization sets farm wage ceilings and requires secretary approval to cut top wages. Farm price levels show high price and wage indices, and cash farm income in 1942 is projected well above 1942 base years, signaling strong agricultural support during the war.
