Forest Staff Reports Busy Year In Vital Economic Areas
Ashley National Forest reports a busy year with drought and heat increasing fire danger. Timber sales totaled about 12 million board feet worth over 40 thousand dollars stumpage, with 165 million board feet sold this year. Numerous road, bridge, and recreation projects were completed or started, and wildfire control benefited from FM radio. Recreation use rose with 380 000 visitor days, grazing remained essential, and range improvements and Diamond Mountain grazing research advanced new forage and watershed protections.
