Origin of the oil shale in Colorado and Utah
A summary of US Geological Survey findings explains oil shale in the Green River formation across northwestern Colorado and northeastern Utah formed from an ancient large lake. Fossilized algae and insects preserved in the shale point to a sequence of fluctuating lake levels, with beaver dam analogies used to discuss water storage and flood control. Field notes mention beaver ponds, springs fed watersheds, and archaeological remains near the lakefront including mound dwellings and arrowheads.

Ancient Indian Granaries in Uintah Basin
Albert Breagan surveys Monument Valley and the Florence and Chandler canyons in northeastern Utah. He notes clusters of granaries and cliff houses linked to temporary storage for harvests, with permanent homes likely in Nine Mile and Hill canyon regions. The region’s ruins resemble beehive shapes and suggest early Pueblo culture in transition.

Water from springs and potholes sustains mountain farms
The article describes summer water supply from springs and pot holes in the mountains and the need to maintain natural flow. It cites Willow Swamp created by the Farnsworth canal company near Mt Home as a wet area feeding cattle grazing lands, and warns about Beaver trapping depleting water assets as stockpiled ponds and polluted runoff threaten storage.

Remains of Early Utah View Found
Dr Albert B Reagan of Brigham Young University reports discoveries near Utah Lake suggesting Indians lived there around 600 AD. Bear Lake Water Save Farmers Large Sum in 1934
Farmers of Utah and Idaho along the Bear river saved crops valued at 3832806 dollars from destruction in 1934 as pumping at Bear Lake supplied water to drouth stricken areas. Utah Power and Night company dredged a channel near Lifton plant on Bear Lake removing 90000 cubic feet of earth to pump water into the river. Governor Blood’s Bear River committee commended water users for cooperation and noted the Utah Power and Light company’s constructive attitude enabling delivery of water during the emergency.
