Public Domain Harvest in 1960 Sets Record for Natural Resources
The 1960 public domain under the Bureau of Land Management produced record totals including 11 billion board feet of timber, 147 million barrels of petroleum, 462 billion cubic feet of natural gas, and 13 million tons of potash. It also sustained forage for 108 million livestock and 13 million big game, with land patents totaling 352,860 acres. Director Edward Woozley cited these gains and noted revenue and land additions for homes, recreation, and public use.

The annual Harvest Ball hosted by FFA and FIA took place November 23 1960 in the Uintah High School gym. Tal Wardells orchestra from Roosevelt supplied music. Mary Lou Bath was crowned queen with Danette Clark as first attendant and Sharon Bodily as second attendant. Mrs Sylvia Moore departed for Phoenix to visit family for about three months.

Funeral services were held for William L Litster 44 of Salt Lake City and formerly of Vernal. Litster died November 24 in a Salt Lake hospital of natural causes. He was born March 30, 1910 in Ft Duchesne. Burial was in Salt Lake Cemetery.
