Diamond Mountain Road Work Gets Boost By Stockmen Fund

Stockmen and farmers met in the Utah Field House to back an all weather Diamond Mountain road. They pledged 100 contributions and pledged 2500 to 3000 more. the county agreed to start work with caterpillars and realign the road five miles up Brush Creek. The United States Bank supported graveling and straightening, aiding ongoing efforts to reduce stock losses and vehicle breakdowns.

Post Office to Stay Open Saturdays Until Christmas

The Vernal Fest office will stay open all day on the next three Saturdays before Christmas with no window service on Sundays or Christmas Day. Emphasized is mailing gifts early due to congestion. Cards require a two cent stamp if unsealed. forwarding address helps delivery. Residents asked to use home addresses and secure packing.

Former Vernal Barber Hart in Crash

Horace Moon Mullins a former Vernal barber was seriously injured when his 1938 Buick left the highway near Alterra High School two miles north of Roosevelt and rolled over several times. Excess speed was blamed. Mullins, his wife, and another guest were in the car with one guest unharmed.

Uintah County Fire Service Ends Over Fee Dispute

Uintah County residents outside Vernal City limits lose fire protection after abuse of service and nonpayment of a $15 fee. County Commissioners propose a $50 per fire charge and a $100 standby plan to offset costs, with plans to revise funding if residents do not pay.

Vernal City to Break Ground for New Municipal Pool

Ground breaking for the Vernal City park swimming pool will take place Friday at 12 30 PM. County commissioner A Don Batty and City Councilman William Slaugh will direct the ceremony in the park’s northeast area. City and county equipment and road machinery will aid excavation as sand and gravel are delivered for concrete mix. A July meeting of clubs organizations and churches in Uintah urged Verigy citizens to contribute toward Christmas baskets for the needy Ashley valley residents. Groups will deliver baskets and donations, with LeRoy Taylor elected chair and Belle Ann representing welfare.
