Funeral services for James O Neill Jr former county clerk of Amish county were held in Glines ward hall Friday with Bishop M M Batty presiding. He died November 23 1923 after moving to Burnett Washington a year earlier leaving wife six children his mother three brothers and five sisters among mourners. he was born September 24 1876 in Midway Utah and served in the All a mission from 1906 to 1908.

Caldwell Trial Starts Second Time Over Sheep Larceny

The second trial of Thos. E. Caldwell began in district court after a hung jury in the June term on a sheep larceny charge. Defense was led by Sam King and Don B. Colton with Russell Schulder aiding. prosecution by Thos. W. O'Donnell. A jury of eight members was seated including Joseph Collier Leo Thorna and others. After Caldwell, Lee Jones faces an arson charge trial.

J L Pectol and Cal Barker travel via Vernal to the west portal of the Moffat tunnel on Thanksgiving day. They report no snow at Steamboat Springs or the tunnel, very cold conditions, and brisk carpentry work. Roads are fine and the potential snow near Maybell noted.

Utah School Head Urges Educators to Aid Seal Sale

Utah state superintendent C. N. Jensen asks principals to back the Christmas Seal sale by educators. Funds fund health education, nurse employment, and crusade efforts, citing 184 TB deaths in the state last year including school children, college students, and mothers. Ashley Valley cattle out to Denver market Wednesday

About 200 head of cattle from the community herd were sent out last week under Charles H. Howell. They were joined by Ben Hall and Hy Rasmussen and others at Dragon on Wednesday and were headed for the Denver market. Howell expects to return next week.

Bank of Vernal Cashier Returns from California Trip

W. N. Prease assistant cashier at the Bank of Vernal returned Tuesday evening from California where he had been on business. He met Mrs. E. D. Lemmon who said Mr. Lemmon was homesick and ready to come home. He also visited Mr. and Mrs. M. P. Smith.

New York Market for Turkeys Was the Best

Uintah Basin turkey raisers shipped Thanksgiving birds to the Utah Poultry Producers' Association and earned the year's highest market price. California markets fell to 17 cents per pound while Idaho Arizona and Texas turkeys flooded San Francisco. Last year California saw as high as 75 cents per pound. The Utah pool prevented worse gluts and saved local dealers from heavier losses.

Commissioners Order New Bridge Over Brush Creek

At a regular county meeting the board approved building a bridge over Brush Creek at the Witbeck ranch with an estimated cost around 300 dollars and appointed Fortch to supervise the project. The Uintah river bridge plans and preliminary work cost 600 dollars, to be paid by the government. The tax sales for 1920 and 1921 were adjusted for several taxpayers. The board also authorized sending 3844.85 to the State road commission and ordered a 100 dollar warrant to County Attorney J T McConnell for expenses.

Christmas Turkeys to Ship by Freight in Uintah Basin

A telegram from Benjamin Brown of the Utah Poultry Producers Association in New York says freight shipping will save nearly 700 dollars per car for Uintah Basin turkeys. Turkeys will be loaded at Price on December 8 9 and 10 and shipped from the Basin on December 7 8 and 9. If not included in this shipment raisers must use express shipping with a savings of several cents per pound.

George A. Slaugh of Davin ward reports his Green River ranch field averaged eighty bushels of shelled corn per acre over twelve acres. On several acres yields exceeded one hundred bushels per acre with quality described as very best.
