Flaming Gorge Wildlife Impact Outlined by Utah Director
Harold Crane of the Utah State Fish and Game Commission warned Vernal officials that Flaming Gorge dam construction would threaten deer, antelope and other big game. He estimated a 170,000 deer herd could be wiped out by migration cuts and floods as 10,090 acres flood and 64,000 acres become inaccessible. He urged a five year study and proposed federal funding for wildlife research plus hunting area withdrawals and grazing changes to rebuild the deer herd.
