Uintah County Budget Plans for 1958 Building and Bldg Programs

Uintah County estimates a 1958 budget of 406 078 versus 321 281 40 in 1957 with most increases tied to 44 000 for the new county building 21 000 for airport expansion and 18 225 for Uintah Water Conservancy District funded by a five mill levy. The 1958 levy rises to 4760 from 4250 and assessed value climbs from 15 983 316 to 18 726 000. Additional revenues come from fines oil legal fees forest liquor and state vehicle registrations. Airport funds totaling 29 000 from city and county will be matched by state and federal aid to total 149 000 for Vernal airport improvements. The Water Conservancy District aids Vernal project with a breakdown of the new levy by department is shown. The 1956 figures appear first and the account continues on page 8.

Water and Power Board to Meet Friday in Vernal

Utah Water and Power Board members will meet in Vernal Friday to visit local water projects. The session was announced by Hughn Colton at a Vernal Chamber of Commerce meeting. A fish fry at Merkley Park will conclude the tour, attended by Governor Clyde. Colton noted harmony among four Upper Basin states at a recent Upper Colorado River Commission meeting in Denver.

Lapoint Loses Playoff For All Church

Lapoint softball team lost a Saturday playoff in Salt Lake City to Colonial nts Werd by 11 to in a game deciding entry to the All Church tournament. Lapoint briefly led and tied during the contest before Salt Lake's late innings push, leaving Roosevelt 3rd Sr. and East Mill Creek to contest the rest of the tournament path. State schedules $875000 for roads in Uintah County

Road Commission Monday programmed $875000 in road and preliminary engineering construction in Uintah County as part of a $39 million state plan. Nearly $32 million in federal funds plus state matching money finance fiscal 1080. Projects include US 40 from Roosevelt to Uintah and seven miles of 3t fout.

Vernal Project eyed to boost irrigation and jobs in Uintah Basin

A Vernal area project aims to provide 4 071 acres of supplemental irrigation and 1 600 seven feet of annual water for Vernal Maeser and Naples with a $1 000 000 approval by a Trouse Senate conference committee. It will create numerous jobs and help ease the local recession. The plan funds include a $6 074 000 cost, revenue from water sales to townships irrigation firms and individuals, plus up to one mill in local taxes. Water would be stored in Steinaker Reservoir for summer and fall use, diverting excess Ashley Creek flows at Thornburg dams into the Steinaker system to supply the canal network.

Roosevelt announces the Roosevelt City Invitational softball tournament set for August 21 to 23 at City Park. Vernal to Dutch John Access Road Okected by State Road Commission

Utah State Road Commission approved an access road from Vernal to Dutch John townsite with a 12 ton suspension bridge estimated at 60 000. A state road engineer and Governor Clyde along with chairman Eli Armstrong will inspect the site as plans move forward. The road aims to link Vernal with Dutch John, boosting local economy and allowing residents to reach Vernal for shopping.

UHS Announces Registration Dates and New Book Renting Plan

Uri ah Bligh school will hold sophomore registration on August 27 from 1 AM to 12 PM and 1 to 4 PM, juniors on August 28 from 1 to 4:30 PM, and seniors on August 29 from 1 to 4:30 PM. Spring registration already mostly completed.
