Officials warn that river flood waters and reservoir sites near Ashley valley risk control by financiers. Citizens are urged to form an irrigation district to secure water rights and fund dams, with a meeting set for August 21 at the courthouse to organize action.

Nichols Family at Orpheus in Vernal

The Nichola family led by Professor Nichols with three daughters and seven year old Loring Nichols perform at the Orpheus Monday and Tuesday nights August 19 and 20. Loring plays cornet, his sister plays saxophone, the older sisters piano and violin, and Prof Nichols clarinet. The show promises superb ensemble music and a rare entertainment for Vernal with the Daylight moving picture bill. Admission prices are 25, 35 and 50 cents.

Ocular Demonstration At Uintah Basin Visit

Denver officials led by Pasuk A Wadleigh visited Vernal to inspect Ashley Valley and Uintah Basin freight potential. The tour included local leaders, an auto ride through the valley, and a plan to publish a 1400 word write up for the September Red Book as proof of the region’s railroad prospects.

Roosevelt Basin fair plans and community committees

The Uintah Basin fair will be held at Roosevelt in a unique special building planned by Mr Blackhurst. Central committee members include L M Winsor as chairman and R S Collett as secretary with others covering buildings, finance, stock, domestic science, art, sports, and Indian department. Local boards are forming in each community to organize booths, exhibits, and district prizes.

Arthur V. Watkins Opens Law Office in Vernal

Arthur V. Watkins of Vernal Utah was admitted as attorney and counselor at law at a Utah Supreme Court chambers session on August 31. He passed a special bar exam for Utah law students in Eastern law schools on August 2 and 4. Watkins, a native of Vernal, studied at Columbia University Law School and earned an LL B. He previously spent a year as a missionary in the Eastern States and served as New York representative for the Salt Lake Tabernacle Choir. Watkins arrived in Vernal Sunday evening and opened a law office in the Johnson block.

Fruit exhibits prepared for Utah Irrigation Congress at Salt Lake

Representatives of the Utah Board of the National Irrigation Congress are collecting and organizing exhibits for the Salt Lake City Congress linked to the state fair. Edward Taylor the state horticultural inspector will supervise display preparation under Orson Hewlett. Cups and cash prizes will reward notable county exhibits and product merit.

Water for crops to reach Colorado Park in 69 days

President Richard Leigh of Colorado Park Irrigation says water will be gunning in the canal within sixty nine days. Landowners should begin building laterals and plowing for fall grain as Deep Creek flume work nears completion and diversions from the Uintah river are connected.

Five Day Week At Uintah Academy For 1914 15

Uintah Academy will operate on a five day school week this year with morning sessions starting at 9 o clock. The annual circular from the Vernal Express press has been issued and distributed. An Odd Fellows party visited Vernal, led by Grand Master Wm I Brereton of Provo and Grand Secretary Rey P A Simpkins of Salt Lake, with Richard Brereton and Hamsey Provo as chauffeur.

Government to auction 300000 acres of Uintah land Oct 8

Public sale of three hundred thousand acres of Uintah Indian Reservation lands will occur October 8 at Provo under Taft and Secretary Fisher order. The nationwide sale includes 1.5 million acres in Wyoming Montana Utah and adjacent territories with prohibitions on bids above 64 acres per person and minimum prices from 60 cents to 150 dollars per acre. Principal buyers were Utah residents familiar with local conditions and grazing land quality is highlighted.
