Bow Hunters Warned of Fire Hazard
Bow hunters planning to pursue game on the Ashbey National Forest were cautioned this week by Fire Central Officer Allan L. Hartong to use extreme care with fire. Though danger eased somewhat, burning conditions remain high and hunters should not smoke while traveling or hunting. Campfires must be built and extinguished with strict rules: clear five feet of mineral soil around the fire, keep woodpiles away from flames, keep fires small, place away from slopes and hazards, never leave unattended, and extinguish completely with water or mineral soil. Report unattended wildfires promptly to the nearest forest officer or law enforcement. District Rangers are in Manila, Vernal, Roosevelt and Duchesne. hunters should not travel alone and should inform someone of their whereabouts.
