Fire Burns 190 Acres Near Flaming Gorge
Firefighters gained control of a brush and timber fire three miles east of Flaming Gorge Dam in the Manila District of Ashley National Forest. The 190 acre blaze stretched from the Green River at 5,500 feet to the Ambered canyon at 2,000 feet, likely sparked by a July 23 lightning storm. About 140 firefighters, Ute Indian crew from Ft Duchesne, hot shot crews from McCall Idaho, local Vernal firefighters, a Basin Flying Service patrol plane, and a Salmon National Forest helicopter helped stop the fire. Salvage plans aim to recover burned timber, reseed the canyon slope, and prevent soil erosion and insect decay.
