Bark Beetle Infestation in Ashley Forest Stopped
A two week beetle control effort in Lake Fork district sixty miles northwest of Vernal involved thirty men who felled infested yellow pine timber scanning about 15 600 acres. Beetles were destroyed by burning the bark and by exposing larvae to the elements. Indian and forest service crews worked under CFB Morse to eradicate the menace. Snowy conditions and high altitude hampered progress but wildlife noted included mountain lion black bear and deer.

Sheep Shearing Gains In Uintah Basin After Warm Spell
Warmer weather boosts sheep shearing in Uintah basin. Trucks carry wool to Watson with loads of about twenty sacks weighing 259 to 300 pounds and valued at 1500 to 1800 dollars each. In 1927 fleeces sold 29 to 32 cents per pound with some baling at the higher figure, while about 125,000 fleeces are shipped from Uintah county with average weight eight to nine pounds. Some losses occur from bad weather in the first week of shearing, but losses are below average for the season.
