The Clean Up Paint Up campaign begins April 2 in Vernal and runs a week through May. Sponsored by the Vernal Junior Chamber of Commerce with city, civic groups, and residents, the effort aims to improve sanitation, reduce fire hazards, and beautify the city. Banners will span Main Street and merchants will display placards. Schools join countywide efforts to enhance surroundings, with a committee led by Bus Richardson, Laurence Fox, and Arthur Woolley.

Quarterly Conference Held In Vernal This Weekend
The Uintah stake regular quarterly LDS conference will occur in Vernal at the tabernacle with general authorities from Salt Lake attending the semi annual Priesthood conference Saturday evening starting at 8 o clock. A special gathering for all Priesthood officers and a welfare session for church officers and bishopric members and councilmen is set for 8:30 Sunday morning at the old seminary. Public sessions are at 10 and 2 in the tabernacle, with Stake Honor Night by the PTA at 8:00 p.m. in the tabernacle.

Ashley Chapel Dedication Postponed Indefinitely
The dedicatory services for the new Ashley chapel have been indefinitely postponed. It was hoped the building would be ready for dedication at the stake quarterly conference next Sunday, but furniture and equipment have not yet been received from Salt Lake. Wong Sing Mercantile, one of Uintah Basin’s oldest stores founded by Wong Sing, relocated to a new US 40 site one mile west of the Uintah River bridge near Fort Duchesne. The store, long connected with both Ute and settler communities, now features modern show windows, a large grocery and meat area, clothing sections, a shoe department, and a rear hardware and furniture/office area.

Lions and Ladies Hold Banquet At Vernal CCC
A Vernal Lions Club banquet at the Vernal CCC Camp last Wednesday featured welcomes from Lt John J Prokon and remarks on a district Lions convention set for June 16 and 17. A plan to print folders showcasing scenic US Highway 40 between Denver and Salt Lake City was approved at a Craig meeting. The 9 by 24 inch folders feature a large route map, about twenty local cuts, and slogans touting a shorter, more beautiful journey through the Heart of the Rockies.

Ashley Canyon Improvement Eliminates Bridges
County crews using a new tractor grader cut a direct route at the mouth of Ashley Canyon. A new canal channel will bypass a west side loop and remove two bridges, leaving one bridge over the High Tone Canal. Explosive blasting opened a rock obstruction and work aims to extend the forest highway toward Uinta lake region, linking Vernal Manila region springs and Trout Creek road for a scenic North American route.

Trappers Hired to Transplant Beaver Up Higher
Two local trappers are employed by the atale flak and game department to trap and transplant live beaver from lower streams to higher fishing areas in the Uinta mountains Russell. Three beaver have already been transplanted to Dry Park canyon above the Massey sawmill to aid fishing conditions by retarding the spring flood and storing up abundant feed for fish. Over 5000 legal sized trout have already been planted this spring.

Langston obituary and Vernal funeral details
George Langston a Uintah county resident for sixty years died at his Vernal home at 4:00 pm Saturday Funeral services were held in the Pint ward chapel Monday at 2:00 pm under Bishopric direction A caravan of Odd Fellows and Rebeccas lined the route to the chapel where hymns and tributes followed The service featured organ solos and multiple speakers including Marjorie Twitchell and George Hemstealk Survivors include his wife and six daughters with services noting Langston born in Alpine Utah in 1860 He came to Ashley Valley in 1879 and lived on a succession of farms before settling near Vernal He helped build canals, served as canal director and treasurer, and was a long-time school trustee and farmer.
