Uintah band wins praise at Price contest event

Professor Joyd Winn led 55 Uintah High School musicians to Price for the Mountain States Band Contest with 9 junior high and 15 senior high bands. Three solo awards and three instrument balance issues noted. crowd of about 15 000 watched 27 bands and a massed concert.

M. I. A. Plans Contest Dance at Imperial April 28

The Mt off stake dance at Imperial Hall is set for Friday April 28 as part of ongoing contests. A practice for entrants is scheduled for Monday April 24 at 5 am under Mrs Arthur Manwaring. Winners advance to Roosevelt May 8 and 9 to compete with Duchesne and Roosevelt stake dancers for Uintah Basin honors. Proceeds support a local project.

A telephone report from Mrs Melva Roberts of Watson says twelve inches of snow covered the ground this morning. Warr, a telegrid operator at Wilson, confirms snow fell all day and melted by night. One inch of snow fell during the night.

Vernal figure David Hill dies after long illness

David Hill 62 a longtime Vernal character died Monday morning from carcinoma of the stomach after 18 months of illness. Born March 15 1871 in Crawford County Eas he worked as a bookkeeper for several local firms and never married. Funeral services at the Congregational church with Rev Gan Guilé presiding, songs by a quartet, and interment at Rock Point cemetery in Kraeser.

Dance at Imperial to Feature Vernal Lions

A large crowd is expected at the Imperial Hall Saturday night for a regular dance featuring the Vernal Lions Club. The event will include Thons club songs rows and skits as special features. Boys Find Fossil Remains Near Duchesne

A group of boys found fossilized bones and skin near Duchesne about a quarter mile south in a dry wash. They alerted their home and removed parts of bones and skin with chisels and hammers. The specimen differs from anything in Jensen CO dinosaur beds 50 miles away, resembling rough scaly skin of a huge crocodile or alligator.

The Vermak Lions Club hosted a annual Easter Egg Hunt for children, with Delilah McCurdy winning the girls prize and Lart Watch taking the boys prize.
