W S Henderson notes progress in an embalming course in Salt Lake City. Will McKinney visited Vernal to demonstrate tennis. Farmers complain about reckless riding by motor cyclists and motorists. Commercial club membership hits eighty two with seven new members. Pontha Valder’s new Frank auto dazzles. Delegates from Vernal attend federation of commercial clubs in Myton. 90 mile round trip completed in under seven hours. Rebel Timothy returns from Hot Springs SD after successful lower lip graft. He plans to return with a new hair growth. Miss Minerva Fisher leaves for Murray.
Professor Joyd Winn led 55 Uintah High School musicians to Price for the Mountain States Band Contest with 9 junior high and 15 senior high bands. Three solo awards and three instrument balance issues noted. crowd of about 15 000 watched 27 bands and a massed concert.
Uintah tracksters invited to the 2nd annual Brigham Young University Relay Carnival in Provo on April 21 and 22. Eight Uintah athletes, including Galloway Noel and Alexander, are named to compete as part of a growing statewide field.
The Mt off stake dance at Imperial Hall is set for Friday April 28 as part of ongoing contests. A practice for entrants is scheduled for Monday April 24 at 5 am under Mrs Arthur Manwaring. Winners advance to Roosevelt May 8 and 9 to compete with Duchesne and Roosevelt stake dancers for Uintah Basin honors. Proceeds support a local project.
A telephone report from Mrs Melva Roberts of Watson says twelve inches of snow covered the ground this morning. Warr, a telegrid operator at Wilson, confirms snow fell all day and melted by night. One inch of snow fell during the night.
David Hill 62 a longtime Vernal character died Monday morning from carcinoma of the stomach after 18 months of illness. Born March 15 1871 in Crawford County Eas he worked as a bookkeeper for several local firms and never married. Funeral services at the Congregational church with Rev Gan Guilé presiding, songs by a quartet, and interment at Rock Point cemetery in Kraeser.
District Court in Vernal met for two days with Judge Abel Turner presiding. Dockets included law, motion, and probate matters with several estate actions and divorce decrees granted. Next term set for June with jury session July 6.
Vernal City conducts pressure tests on the new water system after a brush fire near Vern Shimmin's. Fire Chief FH 8. BYit lecam orders tests. Court House streams reach above the building. Tests near the ward Lombardy poplars and Uintah High School confirm strong supply. Millecam says tests prove reliable pressure for future fires and plans more tests across sections.
A large crowd is expected at the Imperial Hall Saturday night for a regular dance featuring the Vernal Lions Club. The event will include Thons club songs rows and skits as special features. The Vernal Lions Club is a leading civ ic club in eastern Utah, credited with county improvements over five to six years such as U S 40 from Salt Lake to the Colorado State line, Ashley National Forest work, the Vernal Manila highway, the Vernal Lapoint road, and Dinosaur Monument recognition.
County Attorney Hugh W Colton expands his office for a new assistant, a fine boy born to Mr and Mrs Colton on Wednesday night. The newborn greeted his father with a cateat emptor.
J O Stewart supervisor of the Ashley National forest says the forest service plans 200 man camps in Utah for the conservation corps to be organized under a Congress act. Enlistment, processing, and assignment to camps on Ashley forest roads fence work and timber improvements are outlined with sites at Smith's Fork Moon Lake and other locations.
Vernal Lions Club forms committee at special meeting to propose Uintah county projects for federal make work funding. Utah hopes to secure about fifty million dollars from a half billion earmarked by Washington. Potential projects include irrigation storage on Ashley Creek and road improvements to Vernal, Lapoint, Jensen Dinosaur route, and a new dinosaur museum plan.
Reports show a four cent increase in butter fat for the week across the Basin. Cream sold at 15 cents and a Monday rise to 19 cents per pound surprises producers, boosting Ashley Valley cream output and adding about $500 weekly to the salary payroll. Prices rise aid better conditions for farmers despite higher sheep charges.
A group of boys found fossilized bones and skin near Duchesne about a quarter mile south in a dry wash. They alerted their home and removed parts of bones and skin with chisels and hammers. The specimen differs from anything in Jensen CO dinosaur beds 50 miles away, resembling rough scaly skin of a huge crocodile or alligator.
The Vermak Lions Club hosted a annual Easter Egg Hunt for children, with Delilah McCurdy winning the girls prize and Lart Watch taking the boys prize. Scouts hid eggs and the US HL domestics science department provided eggs under Miss Vera Calder, while the event drew a large crowd in ideal weather and praised for planning.
A mass meeting is called for Wednesday evening May 3 at 8 pm in the Court House by Mrs Grace Lambert nurse of the public health department to reorganize the Health Center Club in Uiitals county. The move aims to coordinate local and state health efforts to improve sanitary conditions in public schools and community health services.
Dr Buchtel married Miss Margarete Waugh at the bride's parents home in Nebraska last Saturday. Buchtel, of Denver, performed the ceremony and spent a day or two in Salt Less this week.
