Manifesto on Church State Relations by Mormon Leaders
A dated 1896 statement from leaders of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints affirms no church state union and rejects claims of interference with personal liberty. It outlines rules for clergy to seek church approval before taking political roles and defends strict ecclesiastical duties over civil responsibilities. Moses Thatcher comments on the document refusing to sign portions he cannot endorse.
