Senator Watkins Urges Rejection of Yalta Pact in Japan Treaty Vote
Senator Arthur V. Watkins reports that in March 1952 the Senate approved the Japanese Peace Treaty with a 66 to 10 vote, explicitly rejecting recognition of the Yalta agreement and Russia's title claims to islands north of Japan. He cites reservations and supports from General Omar Bradley and John Foster Dulles, noting U.S. stance protects Western Pacific security.
