Optimism for Passage of River Bill by Upper Basin Officials
John Geoffrey Will of Denver forecast Tuesday that early introductions in Congress favor authorizing the Colorado River storage project with a $1.5 billion price tag. The plan aims to develop the entire Upper Colorado River basin through 10 data and power plants, but Will cautioned that authorization does not equal immediate construction and opposition is anticipated from conservation groups and some federal policy views. The commission’s fourth annual report says river flow this year will be below normal and forecasts vary from 48 to 92 percent of average in different areas.

Wool Tariff Revival Aims to Aid Woolgrowers
United States senators led by Karl Mundt Wallace Bennett and Dworehok sponsored a bill to raise wool prices by raising tariffs on foreign wool. The plan, to be added as an amendment to the Agriculture Act of 1949, seeks to empower the secretary of agriculture to act to curb foreign price dumping and reduce subsidy stigma while boosting domestic production. Supporters cite reduced dependence on imports and treasury gains, but legality remains under study.
