L William Carlstrom former Alistair county clerk was sentenced to an indefinite term not to exceed five years by District Judge Martin M Larson after being found guilty of unlawfully appropriating fifty dollars of public money. A five day stay to file a motion for new trial or appeal was granted and a favorable pardon recommendation considered due to perceived inexperience.
The Advisory Board with Grazing Service members meets at the Court House today to hear appeals and complaints on summer licenses. The session is expected to continue Friday. The Grazing Service will hear appeals from board action at the same time. Also in this issue is the copy of adopted rules for Utah Grazing District No 8.
Uintah County awaits state funded game projects totaling about 22 000 to expand the Whiterocks fish hatchery and develop the Jensen Stewart Lake nesting and hunting grounds. The Stewart Lakes project is the largest, with strong state participation, while WPA work has aided long term fish and game enhancements across Utah.

Ashley National Forest appoints A L Taylor as supervisor after eleven years in forest service. From Rich Held he came, previously assistant supervisor on Fish Lake and later positions across Wyoming and Colorado. Taylor, a Colorado Agricultural College B S graduate, brings forestry training and range management experience to the post.
Bids on two contracts for construction work on US 40, totaling over 2.13 million dollars, were opened Tuesday at the state road commission offices. Reynolds-Ely Construction Co. of Springville won the grade, base, and surfacing bid for 8.835 miles between Duchesne and Fruitland at 105,380.60. North Western Engineering Co. of Rapid City, SD, bid 2,862,230.00 for laying a rock asphalt surface on 9.203 miles from Fort Duchesne to Halfway Hollow, with asphalt prepared in the Uintah Basin from local deposits and supplied under a separate contract.
The Uintah County Red Cross effort under Mrs N A Taylor reaches every home in Willow Creek and Hill Creek to raise flood aid. Schools and communities list bonds and sums, with Uintah county total hopes to beat a week’s end goal. Donations sought at Uintah Drug Vernal Drug and Uintah Power and Light.

Funeral services for Lynn David Freestone were held Friday at Vernal First Ward chapel with Bishop Pontha Calder ree ard ing and counselor Werren D Richardson conducting. The chapel was filled with family and friends as music by the Vernal First Ward choir accompanied by Mrs John Brage. Speakers praised Freestone’s sterling character and home ties, with interment in Vernal City Cemetery under Swain Funeral Home.

The BYU Utah and Idaho meet in Provo crowned THS as third place with 645.58 points while UMHS earned 53166 points. Ming Caldwell won second in individuals with 86 points as 42 high schools competed in 445 contestants across ypt shorthand and accounting with 125 accounting contestants.
Adjutant John Milburn invites Witbeck Post members and all ex service men to a key American Legion meeting next Saturday at the Community House. Otto Wiesley, state adjutant, will attend and address members and other ex service men about messages for World War I veterans.
Edward Thomas Corless known as Ted died Tuesday at 8 10 pm after a severe pneumonia. Born Sept 3 1873 in Bast Lake City, he lived in Ashley Valley, worked in Bonanza Dilsonite mines, Uintah Railway toll bridge keeper, later at Red Front garage. Survived by widow, four children, three brothers, two sisters, and ten grandchildren. Funeral Saturday at 2 pm in Vernal First Ward chapel with Bishop Calder.
