A Turbulent Day on the Lewis River Frontier
The writer recounts a voyage down the river and an overnight stay with Captain and Mrs. Caples. He describes the countryside, a draughty night, and a morning ride to Quigley's ferry. The narrative covers voting in Vancouver, challenges to his residency, and a protest that led to his name being erased from the poll books. He notes social visits, local stores, and mention of political figures and railroad talk.
