Struggles and Reprisals in a Confederate Outpost

A tense encounter unfolds near a ruined Tennessee home as Union soldiers threaten a planter and his family. A brutal slave beating precipitates a daring act of defiance when George Thomas tears down the Confederate flag and a furious firefight ensues, ending with a massacre by marauders and a freed slave's heroic death. Union cavalry later relieves the scene as Thomas survives wounded and a freed slave dies guarding his master.
