The Church of Christ invites friends to a Halloween week program at Van Buren High School featuring a student entertainment at the R and D opera house with an orchestra and soloists. Pictures of local scenes will be shown and a pentomime will follow. A social at the Joliff home ends with a penny bag for each name letter.
About one hundred members and guests attended the Hallowe en reception hosted by the Pythian Sisters at the Knights of Pythias hall last Friday. Festivities featured costumes, autumn decor, games, and music with prizes awarded for masked longest impromptu masking most peanuts found and fastest costume. Refreshments followed.
About 250 attended the Methodist Hallowe en social Monday evening with Halloween emblems for decorations. Music was provided by Masonic band members led by Ralph Bailey and including Ned Conwell Edgar Michaud H A Davis Claude Dillon Walter Creviston E Howard W D Howard Austin Corey Ray Baker Frank Willey Charley Hatcher J W H Farr A E Michaud. Refreshments of sandwiches doughnuts pumpkin pie and coffee were served. A long list of attendees followed, including Rev Lutes and daughter Margaret and many couples. Page eight note accompanies continuation.
Basketball fans will see Markle Modern Woodmen clash with Victory Five Saturday night here. Earl "Rube" Yoos, last year’s all district center for Wabash and Huntington, lines up against local star Wintrede while Sam "can" (Sam Gamore) is expected to hold his own. A strong preliminary is planned and spectators should feel they get value for their admission.
Rev. E. E. Lutes spoke at the Methodist Church about the church hospital program. He cited five Indiana hospitals and forty seven worldwide institutions with forty four nurses homes and orphanages valued at forty seven million dollars. A donation of canned fruits and vegetables was given for state hospitals.
Federal officials have been asked to investigate the August 31 mail sack robbery at the local railroad station in Gas City Indiana. Postmaster Hunt says a district postal inspector may be sent to inspect the case with railroad detectives already in town Saturday. The sack was not located until early last Saturday morning.
Charles Keller sells Warren Indiana general merchandise store founded near Civil War close. The buyers are Al V. Smith of Grabill Indiana and P. W. Potts of Hickville Ohio. The shop was established by Captain Silas Close and has few prior owners.
Van Buren Lodge No. 711 F M M invites members to a stated meeting and Master Mason degree on Monday evening November 7 at 7 oclock with a banquet. W M Guy Duckwall and Secretary T C Pike sign the notice.
Muncie Durants opened with a 16 point lead and won 36 to 26 as Creviston led Van Buren with 12 points and Wintrode added 10. For Muncie Quirk and Koontz tied with 10 each, Cox scored 14, and Doyle led the Van Buren reserves with four. The junior A A squad beat Farrville 24 to 15.
Fidelis class and Sunday School Primary Department plan a pageant titled The Coming of Truth at the Methodist Church on Sunday evening November 6. The program covers four parts with hymns prayers readings and scenes focusing on freedom from bondage and the world’s deliverance. Participants include junior and senior youth groups plus local families and organizations.
Upland Indiana November 3 President James M Taylor of Taylor University wrapped up a week long revival and filled speaking engagements across Indiana He addressed the Kiwanis Club in Marion at a noon luncheon spoke to Kokomo Kiwanis on Wednesday and was a guest at the Marion Brotherhood of the First Congregational Church on Thursday with a pre dinner in church parlors He also spoke Friday at the Marion Men’s Brotherhood of the First Methodist Church.
Kelly Snider suffered a dislocated ankle last Friday during a school wrestling session after an accident in the gym. He was taken to a physician's office where the ankle was reduced and he is reported to be improving.
