Veteran Korporal Found Dead in Indiana

Obituary recalls Anthony Korporal born February 22 1836 in Stemmen Lippe Detmold Germany. He served in Company K 35th Ohio Infantry enlisting 1861 and died March 8 1928 near Van Buren Indiana aged 87. Survived by widow Mary L Steinbroner and children Diedrick Charlotte John Frederick Grace and a daughter who died in infancy. He was a church trustee and veteran with deep community ties.

Spark of Life play to aid centenary fund at church

The M E Sunday School class led by Rev E E Lutes will stage The Spark of Life at the opera house on March 23 to raise funds for the church centenary. The cast includes Herman Heinie Leslie Maddux Homer Losure Willard Peck Ray Baker Lucille Stackhouse Mrs Heinie Toots Snodgrass Bertha Barrow Dora Mee and Genevieve Farr with Ned Conwell's augmented orchestra. Tickets are 35 and 25 cents and sales start at Ned Conwell's drug store.

Funeral Held for Anthony Korporal at Van Buren

Family from Geneva Fort Wayne and north of Warren attended the service at the Korporal residence on Sunday March 11 at 2 pm. Rev J O Campbell conducted the funeral with burial in Van Buren cemetery. The mourners included Mr and Mrs Silas Shimp and family and Mr and Mrs Fred Korporal and A Korporal. Mrs P L Stiles unable to attend due to measles.

Smethurst Bros. of Warren led Chevrolet Zone One in February sales per a Detroit telegram. The Warren firm credited hard work and twenty five years of reputation for square dealing, with local salesman C H Stearns of Van Buren arranging early demonstrations of Chevrolet or Buick.

Pure-bred Dairy Animals Prove More Profitable

Purdue University Dairy Extension notes pure-bred dairy sires yield 47.8 percent more earnings than common stock. Indiana ranks 23rd among states in pure-bred sire sheep to cows, with management and feeding key to success. The Fordue University herd cites Jersey sire Gorgeous Boy whose offspring produced 1828 pounds of milk and 10282 pounds of fat. continuation on Page Five. A separate late paragraph mentions a high tension wire outage causing damage to the local telephone system, blown poles, and downed trees.

James A. McMillan 72 dies at Farrville farm

James A. McMillan aged 72 lifelong Monroe township resident died at six Sunday morning at his Farrville farm home where he was born. He leaves widow and six children including Georgia Stout Clarence J Orville C Joseph P John L of Van Buren and Boyd A of Upland. Funeral at Farrville Church with Rev. R. L. Wiggins in charge. Burial in Farrville cemetery.

A Friday evening gathering at the Methodist church saw good spirits despite bad weather. Miss Lucile Huber won the spelling bee. Prof and Mrs E L Morrison plan to attend the state basketball tournament in Indianapolis on Saturday.

Indiana Storm Devastates Towns With Widespread Damage

A large wind and rain storm swept Indiana causing hundreds of thousands in damage. No fatalities reported though many were injured and livestock perished. Homes barns and businesses unroofed while phone and telegraph lines were toppled isolating several areas and crippling interurban service.

Resolutions on Rev J T Bridwell Leaving Branch County

At the March meeting of the Branch County Ministerial Association resolutions expressed regard for Rev J T Bridwell upon his removal from Coldwater to Van Buren Indiana. They noted memories of his membership and gracious leadership and wished him success, offering to welcome his return when possible and directing copies to Bridwell and local papers for publication.
