Fatal accident claims Beekman child in barnyard shooting

Evelyn Beekman seven year old daughter of William Beekman lives two miles north and west of Van Buren died instantly when her nine year old brother Clarence accidentally shot her with a rifle. The gun was left unattended by an older brother who had taken it to shoot at crows. The coroner ruled the death accidental and the family received community sympathy.

Elbridge Cloud Dies After Prolonged Illness

Elbridge Cloud son of Mr and Mrs Jobo Cloud died Monday after an illness of tuberculosis. Funeral services were held today. He was about 23 and lived much of his life in Van Buren.

Ice Storm Depresses Van Buren Activity

A rain and sleet storm from Monday night froze into heavy ice in Van Buren causing widespread damage. Power and telephone lines were down, streets dark, and local business nearly halted as crews assess hundreds of dollars in fruit tree and infrastructure losses.

Clover Leaf engine No. 205 buried in mud at Pleasant Mills near Decatur was wrecked again Friday night while being hauled to Frankfort shops. The monster locomotive jumped the track near Sins and wreck crew faced a tough restart. Eastbound No. 6 delayed four hours. local carriers did not depart until Saturday morning. Bluffton saw twelve cars of extra eastbound freight No. 182 jump rails at a switch, tearing up track and needing relay before continuing.

Mr Jobo Losure is seriously ill and family worries about the outcome of his present knees. He has been in declining health for over a year but has only recently been bed bound for a couple of weeks.

William Eads 88 Dies at Mt Etna Home

William Burket Eads aged 88 11 months 11 days died Sunday afternoon at 1 at his daughter Mrs Sarah A Mahoney’s home in Mt Etna after six years of failing health. He is survived by six children 21 grandchildren 33 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Funeral Tuesday 10 30 at Mrs Mahoney’s home with Rev Pressnal of Wesleyan Methodist Mt Etna officiating burial at Monument City.

Mt Etna Sawmill Destroyed By Fire

A early Saturday blaze at Mt Etna destroyed the Frank Brulliter sawmill. Neighbor Wilbur Alexander sighted the fire at 4:30 A.M. The mill and yard lumber were all consumed. Origin of the fire is unknown.

Pilcher Jury Fails to Reach Verdict in Larceny Case

The Circuit Court jury in the Doyle A. Pilcher larceny case was discharged after 20 hours of deliberation on Tuesday night with no verdict. Judge J. F. Charles presided as the nine o clock session concluded.
