Rev E E Lutes preached on Gods plan of financing the Kingdom at the M E Church. He urged a definite church-wide giving program tied to tithes as a test of faith and love, arguing wealth offerings reflect homage of the Wise Men and must be part of church life.
Mrs Elizabeth Stanley state president of the W C T U will lead the Grant County W C T U spring institute March 22 and 23 at Central Christian Church Marion Albert R Hall Grant County superintendent will discuss The Bible in the Public Schools A E Highley Marion superintendent Thelma Smith and Lucille Stackhouse of Van Buren will give readings during the sessions The Van Buren Union will be represented at the meetings.
The LaFontaine Herald reports Rev. A L Marrin, age 48, a Hiram College and Purdue University graduate and 21 year ministry veteran, has announced his Republican candidacy for State Representative from Wabash County. He has farm ties, statewide Church of Christ leadership, and broad Republican activity, though county lines may limit support.
Miss Lucille Faxton and Anna Margate Paxton hosted the Kings Heralds on Saturday. Officers elected include President Helen Wright and vice presidents Ethel Eubanks and Lucille Paxton, with Minnie Jones as recording secretary and Oca Howard as assistant secretary. Three new members were welcomed: Glendora Nelson Anna Margate Paxton and Charlotte Allen.
Frank C. Tukey, Republican candidate for sheriff, spoke with voters on Tuesday ahead of the May 2 primary. He notes he is the sole Republican candidate to announce and emphasizes support from World War I veterans.
Glenn A. Scott of Marton has been granted a patent for a work bench. The inventor is the son in law of Mrs. Matilda Huff of this city, with word from Washington released on Saturday.
Warren and Van Buren split games with Warren claiming the second win 33 to 29 on Warren floor. Bonifield and Tam led Warren while Melling and Crevis ton starred for Van Buren in a close season finale.
The United Brethren revival remains in progress with many renewing covenants and others turning to God for the first time. Meetings run nightly at 7 30 this week with a Saturday 2 00 children’s session. Sunday School at 9 30 followed by revival service. Christian Endeavor at 6 30 and preaching after. W R Howard invites all to attend.
Milton Kraus of Penu files declaration of candidacy with the Secretary of State to place his name on the May 2 primary ballot. The eleventh district Republican seeks re election and is believed to face no primary opponent.
Mr. A. B. Hart of Indianapolis visited with Dr. Richarde on Tuesday, noting a routine appointment and discussion of local matters.
Lynn Kern, a Decatur boy and former Van Buren student, made a splendid showing with Kalamazoo College at Fort Wayne Saturday. A noted basket shooter, Kern is well known in the county and trained at Van Buren High School.
An oyster supper in cafe teria style and a farewell party honored Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Trout formerly of Otterbein neighborhood now of Varburden. Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. Ruble and son Holland, Mr. and Mrs. Clint Cramer and family, E. T. Holmes, J. N. Love and families, Noah Hanna and son, Eskie Lee and family, Sherman Lee, Marthe Sands, and Aledeane Pitman.
Prof Scott announces an examination for Bible study students to be held at the high school building on Saturday morning starting at 8 30 oclock.
Central Church announces 9 30 Bible School 7 30 and 7 00 preaching services by Rev A L Martin Baptismal services to be held at the Church of Christ Warren Sunday at 2 00 PM.
The M. E. Church announces Sunday morning topic Strange Lights and a Sunday evening Evangelistic service continuing the outreach.
Grant County trustees held their monthly meeting with County Superintendent Hall and decided to discontinue the annual county commencement for graduates of county schools. Some township commencements may be held, while Van Buren township did not have one last year and is unlikely to this year. Seventh grade pupils will not take diploma exams except in geography and physiology. exams for all pupils must be taken in their home township unless joint schools exist.

The Huntington Giants defeated Van Buren A A on the local floor Saturday night by 28 to 8. Van Buren led 17 to 11 at halftime but faded in the second half as Huntington overpowered them. Jack Melling returned from a minor injury while Ferguson missed the game with a hand injury. this marked the last regular-season contest.
Mr and Mrs Jesse Sullivan return to Vincennes home Thursday after his recovery from an appendectomy operation.
Mr and Mrs Walter Pattison hosted dinner with daughters Sunday receiving guests Mr and Mrs John Anderson Mrs Mattie Arnett and aow and Miss Cargle Arnett of Joncaboro.
