Disappearance of Ross Sills Sparks County Search

Ross Sills, 23, vanished from his Roll area home after leaving with Miss Selah Lightle. A wide search of Blackford County, including gravel pits and rural spots, yielded no trace, fueling belief he fled due to financial troubles while his mother seeks foul play.

Farmers Hear Federated Marketing Talk At Van Buren Unit

The Van Buren township unit of the Grant County Agricultural Association hosted a fine program at the M. E. Church last Thursday. An Indianapolis speaker discussed federated marketing service which locally interests farmers. The evening featured songs, vocal solos, readings, a vocal duet, instrumental selections, and an address by E B McCullom on Federated Marketing Service.

Children’s Day at the Farrville Church Program

Sunday evening June 12 the Farrville Christian Church hosts Children’s Day exercises. Grant County Dental Society Elects Secretary in Marion

A Grant County Dental Society meeting in Marion elected Dr. W. W. Mott secretary. He invited the group to hold July sessions in Van Buren and the invitation was accepted. A chicken dinner will be served to visitors.

Mrs Catherine Hoover dies suddenly at home

Mrs Catherine Hoover seventy years old died Thursday night at 11 40 o clock at her home eight and one half miles south of Huntington in Lancaster township She was born December 8 1851 in Lancaster township to Henry and Catherine Heaston She married William H Hoover April 25 1872 and had seven children Surviving are five daughters two sons twenty grandchildren seven great grandchildren a brother and three sisters Funeral services Sunday at 2 pm from her residence then to Lancaster for burial conducted by Revs B Wike and H L Hartsough Huntington Herald

Children’s Day Exercises Delight at Opera House

Central Church of Christ staged a Sunday night program at the opera house. The Martin children from LaFontaine joined the orchestra and the young performers were well trained. A large crowd attended the splendid entertainment, praised for music and overall success.

Board of Review schedules township hearings in Grant County

The Grant County Board of Review met in the county assessor office and set township hearings for June across Van Buren and other townships. Henry J. Ketner becomes president, Austin D. Hunt secretary, with others including George B. Nottingham J. E. Riley and Robert E. Thomas. The board sits 30 days and hears grievances for possible reassessments. The News-Eagle also prints a letter from Mrs. J M Dunn describing Tulsa race riot conditions and guard actions in Jenks Oklahoma with casualty estimates and ongoing unrest.

Van Buren Street Fair plans revealed at library meeting

Second annual Van Buren Street Fair is set to be held with dates to be announced at a Friday library meeting. President Williamson will likely announce department chairmen and start preliminary planning. Secretary Ducknall reports last fair lost little money after a 2300 dollar effort. Arm strong will discuss pig club activities for township youth tied to the fair.

Potential Buying Power of Organized Farmers Welcomed by Many Concerns

Purchasing Agents for Farmers' Organizations met in Indianapolis on May 24 to discuss cooperative contracts and prices for commodities. Illinois Missouri Ohio and Indiana were represented. The group debated freight rates pooling orders and exchanging ideas. A permanent organization was formed with E. G. McCollum elected President and F. W. Boyle Secretary. President John G. Brown attended a livestock marketing meeting in Chicago May 25 26 as part of a national program. Perry Crane of Zionsville was elected Indiana Federation secretary. he is Purdue agriculture alumnus and former Hoard's Dairyman editor with a 260 acre Boone county farm and Guernsey herd.

Albert J Hall elected County Superintendent in Marion

Albert J Hall of Marion narrowly won the county superintendent race after 188 ballots as trustees split along party lines. The outgoing Democrat Charles Terrell served twelve years, while Hall, a Marion High School teacher and Chautauqua lecturer, prepares to take over and face Grant County's low education ranking.

W R C Grant County Picnic Honors Civil War Vets

The W R C of Grant County will hold its annual picnic on June 14 1921 at Mat ters Park Marion to honor Civil War veterans and the public. Mrs Elizabeth Lee is vice president. The program opens with prayers and addresses followed by music and readings. A noon picnic dinner precedes a 1 30 pm program continuation and officer elections.
