The M E church revival in Van Buren township ended Sunday night with fifty accessions to the church. Many showed intent to unite after the meetings though some remained unswayed. Rev Harter praised the attentive audience and urged ongoing prayer and support.
A group of Van Buren business leaders and residents plan a large combination sale at the tie-in barn in Van Buren on Wednesday February 25. The sale will feature livestock and general goods to help farmers sell horses cows and tools. A new meeting at the Methodist church is set for next Sunday at 2 o clock to organize support and discuss plans for a chautauqua lecture course gymnasium and brass band.
The News Eagle offers a first prize of one dollar and a second prize of fifty cents for the largest and best collection of personal and society items for next week. A major annual sale at Smethurst Bros. Hardware Co. Warren features about forty head of horses and similar cattle, hogs, vast farm implements, and grain. Auctioneers of high repute oversee the sale under a tent rain or shine with ample fire. The sale starts Saturday January 31 at 10 o’clock a.m.
The Freshman Gazette marks its ninth issue as Clarence Sanderman, elected editor, leads the staff with steady progress. It remains the school’s unique freshman paper and prompts speculation about future editions.
In Van Buren J D Gallion buys Curtis O Nelsons grocery and adjoining lot from S E Mageart. Gallion plans to run the grocery and continue the fence business from February 10. Nelson may move to Blackford county or keep a farm near Van Buren for at least a year. Corey and Pilkington sell to Neilson and Stricler who will offer farming implements, tractors, hardware and repair supplies.
Lieut Fred E Coyne Jr and Sgt I R Furnish of Battery A Fifth F A are in Van Buren this week to explain the U S Army recruit drive starting Monday. They will stay about two weeks offering opportunities for vocational training to interested young men and note they have both served overseas more than two years.
